4.3 There's a hole in the  bucket!

There's -  There is

a hole - एक छिद्र

bucket- बादली

Then - मग , नंतर 

fix it - ते घट्ट बसवा , ते स्थिर करा 

With what should I fix it ? - मी ते कशाने बंद करू ?

straw- गवताची काडी

But - परंतु 

is - आहे 

too long - अगदी लांब 

But the straw is too long - पण गवताची काडी खूपच लांब आहे .

cut - कापा , 

an axe - कुऱ्हाड

dull - बोथट (धार नसलेला )

too dull - फारच बोथट 

sharpen -  धार लावा , तीक्ष्ण करा 

a stone - दगड 

dry  - कोरडा 

too dry - अगदी कोरडा 

wet - ओला 

How shall I get it ? - मी कसे मिळवू ? मला ते कसे मिळेल ?

POINTERS

1. Present the song of Liza and Henry in the classroom.

2. List the objects and actions mentioned in the poem.

Object : ( thing) -  a bucket, a straw , an axe , a  stone ,  water .

Actions : -  fix ,cut , sharpen , wet , get .

3. Rewrite the song in the form of a simple dialogue between Henry and Liza.

Ans :-  Dialogue between Henry and Liza .

Henry : Hello Liza! There is a hole in my bucket.

Liza : Dear Henry, then fix the hole in the bucket. 

Henry : With what should  I fix it?

Liza : Fix it with a straw.

Henry : But the straw is too long.

Liza:  Then cut it to  short , Henry.

Henry : With what shall I cut it?

Liza : Cut it with an axe.

Henry : Dear Liza, the axe is too dull. 

Liza : Why don't you sharpen it?

Henry : With what should I sharpen the axe?

 Liza : Of course, with a stone!

Henry : But the stone is too dry , Liza.

Liza : Then wet the stone.

Henry : With what should I wet the stone?

Liza : Wet it with water.

Henry : How shall I get the water? 

Liza : In the bucket, Dear.

Henry : Dear Liza, there's a hole in my bucket!

4. Present the story line of the poem in the form of a circular flowchart.

There's a hole in Henry's bucket.

Liza tells him to fix it.

Henry asks what he should fix it with

She tells him to fix it with straw.

He tells her that the straw is too long.

Liza tells him to cut it.

She tells him to cut it with an axe.

He tells her that the axe is too dull

She tells him to sharpen it.

She tells him to sharpen it with a stone.

Henry tells her that the stone is dry

Liza tells him to wet it.

Henry asks her with what he should wet It.

She tell him to wet i with water.

Henry asks her how he should get water.

She tells him to get it in a bucket.

Henry tells that his bucket has a hole.

5. Write the plural forms of the following nouns: -

6. Form pairs. Make a list of ten everyday problems and their solutions

Ans. (1) Problem : Fan is not working.

Solution : Call an electrician.

(2) Problem: A tap is leaking.

Solution: Call a plumber to mend it.

(3) Problem: Oil is spread on the floor. 

Solution : Clean it and then wash it with soap powder.

COUNTING AND MEASURING

Note that we can count holes, axes, stones, etc. That is why they have plural forms. But we cannot 'count' materials like water, milk or straw. Therefore, usually, we do not say waters, milks or straws.

We measure these materials and say a bucket of water'. 'a cup of milk ' a spoonful of sugar, etc. We can also say 'two litres of oil, half a  litre of milk", "one kilo of sugar. etc.

We say pieces of cloth', slices of cake', 'a loaf of broad,  rather cloths , cakes or breads.

I want  a cup of hot chocolate.

I want  a piece   of chocolate.
